GSP To Fight Bisping for Middleweight Belt

March 02 07:33 2017

Bisping has come under increasing criticism for choosing to fight GSP over Romero, with many fans branding him a “paper champion”, chasing easy pay days rather than taking on his real challengers like Romero.

St-Pierre and Bisping are expected to fight in the second half of this year, on a date yet to be determined. Bisping, who is now recovering from an injury, defended his belt in 2016 vs. Dan Henderson.

St-Pierre is still among the biggest stars in MMA even though he hasn’t fought in almost three-and-a-half years.

Formerly the biggest draw in UFC, St-Pierre, now 35, vacated his belt in December 2013 and took a break from the brutal world of mixed martial arts citing the pressures associated with “fighting for a very long time at a high level”. This means if you are legally able to gamble, the current odds by Sports Interaction would need you to wager $150 on Georges St-Pierre to win $100.

Bisping acknowledged the criticism, but turned the tables and said any other fighter would accept a GSP bout if it was offered. In addition, the tandem of heralded fighters will now take part in a Friday press conference to make the aforementioned news official.

“(We were) not even close (to making a fight between McGregor and St-Pierre)”, White said. It’s clear to see why they want this fight to happen. “Me and Georges trained together a long time ago – 11 years ago – and Georges outwrestled me”. Stylistically, this matchup should favor St-Pierre, despite Bisping have solid takedown defense and a natural size advantage. The Brazilian’s latest victory saw him take home a dominant win over Tim Boetsch at UFC 208 this past month, when he locked in a Kimura for the first round submission.

“I’ve got nothing but respect for Georges”. For me, beating Georges, beating Anderson Silva, beating Dan Henderson, beating Luke Rockhold, beating all these great guys, for me it really just puts an exclamation mark on my career.
