Hawaii enacts laws adopting Paris climate deal pledges

Trump announced the United States exit from the 190-plus nation pact last week, drawing strong criticism from allies in Europe who vowed to turn to China and other countries as partners to implement the 2015 deal.

Mr Trump’s decision, based on the deal being bad for American jobs, was met with scorn and condemnation both at home and overseas, with isolated North Korea among the latest to join the chorus.

The problem is threefold.

President Donald Trump caught a lot of flak for withdrawing from the Paris Climate Agreement, and now North Korea is sharing its two cents on the matter. In other words, Paris had inched the world 0.2 degrees closer to the ultimate target than Copenhagen. Much of the bill’s language makes reference to the worldwide scope of the problem, and celebrates that almost every country on earth came together to dedicate resources to fighting climate change.

Finally, Trump had misstated the researchers’ ultimate conclusions.

Efforts to reduce emissions and push for clean energy on the Garden Isle include changing streetlights to energy efficient LED bulbs, capturing methane gas at the Kekaha Landfill, and offering more transportation options, Carvalho said. He was joined by mayors from around the state, who also signed an agreement to commit to the goals of the agreement, according to the New York Times.

Almost 200 countries signed on to the Paris Agreement.

“The withdrawal from the Paris Agreement contradicts views of the overwhelming majority of scientific, business, energy industry, and spiritual leaders on climate change, as well as the will of the American people – all of whom believe the usa is better off staying in the agreement”, McDermott added.

But Delattre stressed that “we need more than ever an America that stays committed to world affairs”.

Trump’s announcement also prompted more than 1,200 business leaders, mayors and college presidents to stress that they planned to continue working towards the goals set in Paris.

“We have kuleana to malama our island home”, Ige said. Trump added, “if we can’t, that’s fine”.

President Obama faced a similar struggle when trying to impose stricter greenhouse gas emissions limits during his administration.

In announcing the withdrawal on June 1 from the almost universally supported agreement, Trump earned the scorn of the European Union, China, India, Brazil, and many other nations that have been taking ambitious actions to reduce their emissions of global warming gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane.
