A Holocaust survivor condemned Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during a town hall Tuesday for reportedly waiting outside of courthouses and religious institutions nationwide to detain undocumented immigrants since President Donald Trump took office January 20. Everybody has rights in this country and they should know them.
It’s not known why immigration agents went to the house in the first place.
The post set off a firestorm of responses and on Tuesday night, DuBois said she did nothing wrong.
“I think folks that came here with an open mind, I think it did make a difference, hopefully what it did was to clear up some conflicting information”, said Jones.
Asked whether she thought the post could be construed as obstructing justice, she replied, “No, I don’t”. ICE said they were not initially at the residence to arrest Torres. The detainer is a request to the local agency to detain that person for up to 48 hours after the person’s scheduled release date, in order for ICE to investigate a civil immigration matter.
DuBois added that she hopes that those who disagree with her on this issue can work with her on other issues.
The elder Torres and his wife both are legal US residents, and Felix Jr. and his siblings all are USA -born, Hallock said.
Hodgson believes that the elected officials representing sanctuary cities should be arrested for working against the law by protecting illegal immigrants.
“We have a long standing cooperation with fellow law enforcement officers from around New York City and the nation and that shall continue”, Supreme Court Officers Association President Patrick Cullen wrote.
“Our police officers and detention officials support the federal government’s efforts to quickly contact and detain undocumented immigrants who have committed serious crimes”, officials stated.
Senator Omar Aquino released a statement, saying, “I am saddened and disturbed to hear that a man was shot in the arm by ICE agents this morning in Belmont Cragin”. “My comments were responding to a population who are already fearful of police”. “The City and State should not wait until another Chicagoan is shot by ICE to act on strengthening the Welcoming City Ordinance and passing the TRUST Act (HB 3099)”.
