Honor 6 gets Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in India

The Adoptable Storage feature in Android Marshamallow sort of addressed the first problem.

The cards slotted in for extra storage space serves only that objective: more storage space.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow added an adoptable storage feature, which allows you to format a microSD card as internal storage.

Android Central after playing with the LG G5 at MWC claimed that it didn’t support adoptable storage; though the company has not detailed any reason to miss out the feature.

In its most basic form, Adoptable Storage extends the basic and limited functionality Android had granted to microSD cards pre-Marshmallow. With “Internal” mode disabled for both devices, the SD cards will only be able to be used for media-no apps allowed.

Android updates usually have quite a few changes behind-the-scenes but in our opinion the only thing that users are going to be interested in is going to be the Doze Mode.

Up to this point, consumers familiar with using MicroSD cards are used to moving them from phone to phone or inserting them into a computer for easier file transfers. If you remove it, the phone will also throw out errors because the system will be missing part of its primary storage. The way Adoptable Storage is formatted, microSD cards won’t be readable by other devices. If users select the latter, the phone reformats the SD card to appear as internal storage, and it will no longer work on other devices and card readers. Many would also use those microSD cards for multimedia and files they want to keep separate from the main storage directory structure. It says that Adoptable Storage is really just meant for lower tier devices with 4 or 8 GB of storage, which would definitely be in need of memory expansion. We think that our model of using microSD for mass storage is more in-line with our owner’s desires and expectations for how microSD should behave.

Samsung’s reasoning is not entirely wrong, even if it feels lopsided to us.

But we’re still not entirely convinced. Wouldn’t hiding the feature away and obscurely in settings worked better?
