Huskers trail Purdue 14-10 at half

They will face a solid receiving core from Nebraska. But the Huskers are in the mix, which is all you can ask. And certainly after previous year, there’s no way Mike Riley would give up on the run.

Fast forward to today.

Two plays and 16 seconds into Saturday’s game at Nebraska, the Purdue football team found itself in a familiar hole.

In the third quarter, Armstrong was 6 of 8 for 116 yards and one touchdown. But the senior signal caller was outplayed in the first half by his sophomore counterpart from Purdue.

Parker wasn’t afraid to take chances during his first game. While the offense is respectable, putting up 27.5 points and 441.8 yards per game, the defense is the reason for the overs hitting. Drew Brown capped the scoring with a career-long 51 yard field goal in the fourth quarter. Brandon Reilly led the way with four catches for 73 yards. Newby finished with 82 yards rushing, with 65 coming in the final period. A special shout out to Pierson-El for making a play on that fake punt; for a second, I thought he might even intercept that.and can you imagine what the reaction to that would be? “Some of it didn’t work, but I’m proud of our effort”. That was the quickest since a game in 1999 against Colorado, when the Cornhuskers scored in 15 seconds. However, the “chills” interim coach Gerad Parker talked about at halftime didn’t last in a 27-14 loss. The performance often left the 90,546 fans at Memorial Stadium sounding less raucous than like leaves rustling across an autumn lawn.

Nebraska’s offense struggled to move the ball in the first half. “It would not normally be very easy to fill in for Jordan Westerkamp, Cethan Carter and make it look like football”.

Nebraska, a 24-point favorite, has a lot to lose if there’s a repeat of past year. Foltz was killed in a vehicle crash in Wisconsin before the season started.
