I am still the right man for Leicester job, declares Ranieri

Leicester, the unfashionable English club which enchanted the sporting world by winning the Premier League as a 5,000-1 outsider last season, plunged closer to the relegation zone in its woeful title defense after losing 2-0 at Swansea on Sunday.

“Ranieri should be loyal to his players for what they did last season, but there comes a point where you have to look at how those players are performing”, said Cottee, speaking on Premier League Daily.

“Last year Vardy went into every game knowing he was going to score and that Leicester were going to win – it’s the best feeling in football. I will not play again for them”, and claimed he had been told that if an offer of £4-5million was made, the club would accept it.

“I say to Riyad: ‘Come back to last season, come back.’ He is trying and he is positive and I am very happy when he is positive”.

‘I don’t think Ranieri is in touch with what he is seeing.

“It’s not something that you just lose”.

“And for me, it was a very pleasing afternoon”. Now it is 10 hours without scoring a goal and we have to find a solution because it is not possible (that) everything is wrong this season.

A shortage of quality defensive cover has lead to Morgan and Huth playing a lot, possibly too much.

Leicester City started the game with a fast pace, stringing quick passes around the Swansea area but lacking in the final third.

‘I don’t feel now is the right time to change everything, but questions need to be asked’.

Last season’s champions have found themselves in the freaky situation of facing relegation and Ranieri is keen to turn his side’s form around quickly.

The former Derby manager has had an immediate impact in the Premier League and his decision to bring in Tom Carroll is looking like a brilliant piece of business, while Gylfi Sigurdsson is flourishing under him.

“We stick together and we are training hard”.

“I have been impressed with our belief”, he said.

The one low point for Swansea was an Achilles injury suffered by Nathan Dyer during the opening exchanges and Clement admitted the initial prognosis was not good.

“The initial prognosis is it doesn’t look good”, Clement said.
