United States president Donald Trump reiterated his suggestion that arming teachers is a solution to gun violence in American schools, as outrage over last week’s mass shooting in Florida continued across the country.
Trump met with local residents, including a mayor and education officials at the White House on Thursday. Highly trained, gun adept, teachers/coaches would solve the problem instantly, before police arrive.
Critics said Trump’s ideas would do nothing to remove military-style weapons from the nation’s streets. “I said, ‘Mr. President, every morning, I want you to look at those pictures of my daughter to give you energy to fight for this, to make it happen, so no other family’s got to go in that office'”.
It was the third time in as many days that Trump, who has vowed to take swift action following the latest gun massacre in a USA school, has championed the idea of transforming schools into heavily fortified zones where educators would secretly be carrying weapons to guard against attacks.
“The elites don’t care not one whit about America’s school system and school children”, LaPierre told a friendly audience of conservatives outside Washington.
Insisting he will take action on guns and school shootings, Trump doubled down by saying that armed security guards are not enough and trained teachers should also carry guns.
“Anyone who wants guns in schools has no understanding of what goes on inside them-or worse, doesn’t care”, the union’s president Randi Weingarten said. “We need to arm our teachers with more money in their pocket”. Angered students, parents and teachers confronted Florida Sen.
“And, Mr President, we’re going to fix it, because I’m going to fix it”.
However, Trump conceded that concealed carry – carrying a concealed firearm in public – “only works” with people who are “very adept at using firearms”. “Because my daughter, I’m not going to see again”, said Pollack.

Stratford Schools Superintendent Janet Robinson was the head of Newtown Schools at the time of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Most in the group Wednesday were emotional but quiet and polite.
The notion of arming teachers at U.S. public schools, which are largely governed by states, local councils and school boards, has been raised by some politicians in the past but has been dismissed by many critics as fraught with danger.
In the name of comedy, The Late Show did find one teacher enthusiastic about getting her Trump gun.
“I don’t want teachers to have guns”, he said.
The father said he did not favour adopting new gun restrictions, but pleaded for Democrats and Republicans to come together to create new school safety measures.
“It would be teachers and coaches”, Trump said.
Speaking at the CNN town hall, Scott Israel, the sheriff of Broward County, said simply: “I don’t believe teachers should be armed”.
