In Iowa, Trump intensifies ‘birther’ attack on Cruz

“Donald Trump taunted fellow Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz over his eligibility to be president on Saturday, offering the following response to Cruz’s instance that he’s a natural born citizen: “You’re not”.

Under the Constitution, presidents must be ‘natural born citizens.’ Cruz was born in Calgary, Alberta, to an American mother, which he says makes him eligible to run.

Voters view Cruz more favorably than Trump, however, and more are open to the possibility of voting for him, according to the new findings. The father of the senator from Texas was born in Cuba.

Tribe said in an interview with ABC News last week that he interprets a “natural-born citizen” as meaning anyone who is a US citizen at birth and does not have to be naturalized.

“I recognize that there are candidates in the field that don’t want to talk about those issues, and they want to instead encourage the good people of the media to go down rabbit trails and engage in silly sideshows”, Cruz said.

During the speech, the billionaire showman also use the unusual tactic of attacking former New Hampshire governor John H. Sununu, a GOP institution unto himself in the Granite State.

Trump on Sunday also pushed back against the notion he can not compete against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton in a general election.

As Cruz took the lead in Iowa before its February 1 caucuses, Trump’s glare followed. Most believe that since Cruz became an American citizen at birth, he is eligible to run for president, but Trump’s remarks have prompted numerous politicians to wonder whether Cruz is decisively eligible for the presidency.

“We have law enforcement authorities that enforce our laws”, he said on CNN.

Trump reiterated on “Fox News Sunday” that the Supreme Court never has defined what “natural born citizen” means in the constitutional provision outlining the requirements to serve as president.

“I will say it is more than a little unusual to see Donald relying on as authoritative a liberal, left wing, judicial activist Harvard Law professor who is a huge Hillary supporter”, Cruz told reporters in Hudson, New Hampshire, Tuesday. “We also don’t have people going door-to-door looking for murderers”. “Whether we like it, don’t like it, he lived there, he was there, he was born in Canada, I guess his parents voted in Canada, a lot of things, I mean a lot of things happened…. In that case, he’s not”. First asked in 2013, Trump said if Cruz was born in Canada, perhaps he does not qualify for the Oval Office.

“Let me tell you: From Ted’s standpoint and from the party’s standpoint, he has to solve this problem, because the Democrats will sue him if he’s the nominee”, Trump said. “Three weeks ago, nearly every Republican candidate was attacking Donald Trump“. No, I don’t intend to send jack boots to knock on your door and every door in America. And that kinda suggests something has changed in the race’.
