India conveyed its “deep pain” and “regret” to Tanzania after a Tanzanian woman student was allegedly beaten up and stripped by a Bengaluru mob Sunday night. “We need to investigate the case to find out the truth”, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (north division) T R Suresh said, according to The Times of India.

The Tanzanian Embassy in New Delhi has sought a detailed report about the whole incident.

Kaweesi said she had no connection with the accident and alleged the police “was not so helpful” when they were approached. She says police have arrested four suspects.

The victim’s friends told police that on Sunday the furious mob had pulled them out of their auto, assaulted them and molested her in which her clothes were torn.

Sushma telephoned Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah this evening to ask for stepped-up security in areas of Bangalore where large groups of foreign students live. The incident nearly sparked a diplomatic crisis for India, with the Tanzanian high commission, in a communication to the foreign ministry, asking the government to take strong legal action against the perpetrators and ensure the safety of African students in India.

Following the brutal assault on Tanzanian student in Bengaluru, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has asked the Karnataka Government to explain the incident and send the report immediately. The incident took place after a local woman was run over by a Sudanese man, apparently driving under the influence of alcohol.

Earlier, the local residents set fire to two cars belonging to the African students, who studied in local colleges in Ganapathinagar on Hesaraghatta Road.

The actual driver was a student from Sudan, who allegedly under the influence of drugs mowed down a woman who was taking a walk. However, city police said arrests were made only in the accident case. “He told us, “You all look alike and should get the black man who ran over a woman in the area”, she said adding that she can identify the cop.

Bengaluru city police commissioner, N S Megharik has assured of a thorough probe while also adding that there is zero tolerance towards a mob mindset.

The five injured students are said to have been kicked out of hospital because they had no means of paying their bills and had no money.
