Apple’s iPhone 8 will include an iris scanner and wireless charging, making it even more Star Trek-like than any iPhone that’s come before. However, DigiTimes also notes KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested Apple may lean toward facial recognition technology, which could possibly replace its Touch ID fingerprint scanning system on the upcoming iPhone.
The next iPhone, expected to be named either the iPhone 8 or slightly cooler sounding iPhone X in honour of the 10th anniversary, will reportedly house a 5.8-inch OLED screen and could have an entirely glass rear casing. All three new iPhones are said to feature wireless charging, regardless of price point. Pressing the touch-button for long will perform functions similar to a physical home button where soft-touch sensitivity will work as a normal home button. The wireless charging has been present on AAPL’s rival devices for many years. “This graphite sheet will be laminated to the heat-sensitive film sensor internally”.
However, putting a 3D Touch module with graphite sheet will come with some cost which will be automatically passed on to iPhone’s overall cost. His predictions in the past have been uncannily accurate. In fact, that case – as Fast Company points out – isn’t very hard to make, considering the top-of-the-line iPhone 7 Plus today, with 256GB of storage, has a retail price of $969. That adds up to about $1000 a pop, Apple’s most expensive iPhone yet.
‘As a result, overall June quarter builds have increased from 45M to 48M, with the sharp increase in iPhone 8 offset somewhat by modest declines in legacy models’. A likely September 2017 release date for the device is also expected, despite the mass production of the smartphone rumored to be starting earlier than usual.
Instead of troubling you with lengthy passwords or complex pin codes, however, like the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7, it’s been suggested the iPhone 8 will always be watching you, with the phone tipped to play host to an integrated iris scanner.
