Former President Bill Clinton and Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrive for the 58th Presidential Inauguration at the U.S. Capitol for President-elect Donald Trump in Washington, Friday, Jan. 20, 2017.
Clinton has largely retreated from public view since Trump’s upset win in November shattered her hopes of becoming the first female commander-in-chief of the world’s most powerful democracy. Instead, she was seated with two members of Trump’s immediate family. She spent far less time talking to him than to the other Democratic and Republican lawmakers who lined up to chat.
“The other unique thing for the first lady and her parents that would never have been such an important thing before; the glass came from Slovenia”, he said amidst applause.
But for important moments during her political life, Clinton prefers the white pantsuit.
Former presidents usually attend each new president’s inauguration.
Addressing the crowd at the luncheon, President Trump asked Clinton to stand up.
Clinton donned a winter white Ralph Lauren suit – symbolizing the Suffragettes moment.
Clinton also wore white on the last night of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia-and Clinton supporters wore white to the polls on Election Day, following the viral imperative: #WearWhitetoVote. The grandmom Hillary was visiting as well her granddaughter’s ballet recital. “She expected to be there, she really did”.
“Forgive me for being not entirely consistent” for applauding Clinton’s decision to attend, Beyer added. Today, for him to shake his hand and tell Trump “good job”, after he gave a speech effectively bashing the hell out of his presidency, took more class than I ever would have figured Obama possessed when he took office eight years ago.
Clinton wasn’t the only figure who appeared to be having a hard time on Friday.
As Donald Trump prepared to become the 45th President, the journalists at ABC couldn’t help but focus on every detail of Hillary Clinton’s outfit. “Because I have a lot of respect for those two people”.
Clinton was there only as the wife of a former president; the ceremony that accompanies America’s peaceful transfer of power has always recognized a number of honored guests, including members of the House of Representatives, the Senate, the Supreme Court, and surviving former presidents.
But those questions went unanswered.
