And as for free agents, the Bears would be much better-served to sign guys such as Stephon Gilmore, Dontari Poe, Kevin Zeither, Logan Ryan or Barry Church. The Bears could have rolled into ’17 with Cutler at a cap cost of less than $15 million, per OvertheCap.
The Chicago Bears appear to have their quarterback.
So where do they begin?
Mike Glennon will sign with the Chicago Bears, per every reporter covering the National Football League right now, and it seems like that deal will be really lucrative. Maybe if you put it next to Brian Hoyer’s two-year, $6 million contract he’ll soon sign with the San Francisco 49ers, it doesn’t look like the most thrifty allocation of resources. If that is the case, then the most important box on the to-do list will have been checked off. The Chicago Bears quarterback was set to undergo surgery on a broken thumb and the same yahoos who had criticized him after an MCL tear the previous year were once again coming out in droves to question his toughness. Whether Pace views him as a short term or long term solution is unknown, but it is clear that he sees something in Glennon.
Glennon is now looking for a new home, and he may have already found one in the Chicago Bears, who are expected to jettison Jay Cutler and look for a new quarterback. Pryor, Tony Jefferson, Johnathan Hankins, Larry Warford, Riley Reiff could have also made this list, with plenty more behind them.
It’s unclear what the Jets’ next move at quarterback will be.
Throughout the offseason, Glennon’s name has been linked to the Jets for several reasons, the biggest being that Gang Green has an obvious need at quarterback. Not one. Odds are they won’t be able to trade for Kirk Cousins and probably don’t want to draft a quarterback at #2 overall.
To give Glennon some help at wide receiver and to help in the return game, the Bears are making a push to sign Cordarrelle Patterson, according to SiriusXM NFL Radio’s Alex Marvez.
