Jiangsu Suning’s £38M Alex Teixeira: I couldn’t wait for windy Liverpool

All of these players have been brought in by the Chinese Super League in the January transfer window for a whopping combined price tag of 258.9 million Euros.

On Wednesday, Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande signed Atletico Madrid’s Colombian striker Jackson Martinez for 42 million euros.

Should the move be completed, he would become the latest big name to head to China.

Teixeira maintained he wanted to join the Reds last month, but after the European transfer window closed on Monday, he was left with few options.

“But leaving the people with whom I have worked for so many years and who helped me grow, with whom I made friends is, of course, difficult”.

Chelsea has reportedly turned down China’s big-money offer to Oscar as the Chinese Super League continues to lure global players to play for the country’s growing football competition.

The Shakhtar Donetsk forward signed for Jiangsu Suning on Friday after missing out on the move to Anfield and has accused Liverpool of not following through with their interest. The club has never won the top-tier championship.

Teixeira was courted by Liverpool, but the EPL side failed to meet Shakhtar’s rating of the midfielder.

It was alleged Liverpool could have recruited the Brazilian if they were willing to increase their offer, but Jurgen Klopp’s club refused to bid more than £30 million for Teixeira’s talents. Jiangsu Suning finished in ninth place last season.

“Before I came here I had some contacts over there as well that they are very keen to bring in star players”. The Brazilian attacker would have been a flawless fit to join up with the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino in Klopp’s high press attack.

On Weibo, a Chinese version of Twitter, one commenter posted: “In the end, he lost to the lure of capitalism”.
