“The student leader was moved out of Tihar jail at around 8.30 pm for questioning”, a senior police officer said without disclosing the location where Kanhaiya was taken by the cops. “They have also said that police can arrest them or question them as and when required in connection with the case”, said Sucheta De, National President, All India Students Association (AISA).
Worth mentioning, the five students of JNU namely, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya, Rama Naga, Ashutosh Kumar and Anant Prakash are having sedition cases pending with him at Vasant Kunj police station and the investigation is on.
The report also said Delhi Police was looking into the “linkage between Kanhaiya and some foreign elements with their mouths covered” who were present during the February 9 event at the university.
In their status report submitted in court, the police have described Kanhaiya as the “organiser” of the February 9 event on the campus where “anti-national” slogans were raised.
However, during the hearing, when the court was informed about violence at Patiala House court complex during Kanhaiya’s remand proceedings, the bench observed, “We have to ensure that no one suffers even a scratch this time”. We will fight for justice for Kanhaiya, Umar and Anirban and there is no question of the trio surrendering before police, ” she added.
While opposing Kanhaiya’s bail plea, the police said that it was “an open secret” that the event has ramifications not only within India but has “an worldwide impact” as well.
Delhi Police today continued their interrogation of Khalid and Anirban but remained tight-lipped about developments in the case citing high court’s order to maintain utmost secrecy.
Khalid and Anirban, along with three others, had gone missing from the JNU campus since February 12 when Kanhaiya was arrested.
The duo had surrendered before the police half an hour before midnight on Tuesday. They will seek the custody of Kanhaiya Kumar on Thursday.
Then Mehta told the court to defer the bail petition in wake of the new development.
Security was beefed up inside and outside the court room during the hearing.
