John Oliver on Donald Trump

“F***ing Drumpf!” Oliver exclaimed with giddy excitement.

“Stop and take a moment to imagine how you would feel if you just met a guy named Donald Drumpf, a litigious serial liar with a string of broken business ventures and the support of a former Klan leader he can’t decide whether or not to condemn”, Oliver said.

John Oliver is a snarky leftist who made his bones as a John Stewart flunky before getting a not-all-that-funny show on HBO.

If your February 2016 self told your June 2015 self that Donald Trump could someday become president, your June 2015 self might have said, “That’s insane talk”.

More on this subject in a separate post later today. But the pièce de résistance of the almost 22-minute takedown was the show’s campaign to force Trump to change the family name back to the original “Drumpf” moniker of the Donald’s ancestors.

Clearly, Trump and Drumpf have very different connotations.

Oliver also tore into Trump’s claims that he has self-financed his entire campaign and that he’s successful.

Last Week Tonight has already filed the paperwork to trademark the “Drumpf” name and bought the DonaldJDrumpf.com domain name. He’s harnessing that to “uncouple the magical word [‘Trump’] from the man he really is”.

“For a tough guy, he has incredibly thin skin”, said Oliver.

Throughout the show, Oliver repeatedly pointed out how Trump isn’t exactly who he says he is, despite his name being “very powerful”.

“His fingers seem fine”.

As with many of Oliver’s comedic forays into political debates, this one quickly seemed to cut-through into the real world, with #MakeDonaldDrumpfAgain a top trending topic on Twitter and Facebook in the USA the following day.
