Johnny Depp Receives Desert Palm Award

The 52-year-old three-time Oscar nominee spoke with ET’s Mary Hart after his speech, where he opened up about how “it’s not easy” for his wife when he’s deeply invested in a wild and eccentric role – which for Depp is nearly all of them.

“He walked into the rehearsal room on day 1 looking very nervous, quite honestly, and as though he’d been up half the night worrying”, she said of Fassbender.

During his speech at the Palm Springs festival, Depp also thanked Warner Bros. executives who supported him “so bravely and didn’t complain about the prosthetics” he used to play Boston mobster Whitey Bulger in Black Mass.

He said other studios had been “very frightened” of the way he transformed himself for various roles. It is reported that Michael Eisner, former CEO of Disney, once got mad at Depp in a meeting with Disney’s “upper echelon” for nearly ruining the film because of his drunk/gay acting. “What the f-k are you doing?” he was asked.

“I feel new flavours that I didn’t know existed. They were actually going to put subtitles under my character, they couldn’t understand Captain Jack”.
