Johnson polishes off a dominant victory

He walked away calmly toward the 16th tee box.

Saturday’s Round 3 was a dream round for Dustin Johnson. But he couldn’t quite make himself do it.

He just doesn’t have much to say about it, mainly because he doesn’t need to.

He was 10 shots behind, and his attention turned to a strong finish with hopes of getting one of the top five seeds at East Lake in the Tour Championship.

Johnson, 11-under on par-5 holes this week, seeks his third title of the year after the US Open and the World Golf Championships Bridgestone invitational. “So, I just try to stay focused”.

Englishman Casey also shot 67 for second place at 20 under, his second consecutive runner-up finish, with American Roberto Castro (67) another three shots back in third place. But then he didn’t.

“I’ve done basically everything I can do as far as schedule and playing”, said Fowler.

It added to a 72-hole score of 23-under par that included a course-record 63 in the second round and a five-under par 67 in a final round that featured six birdies and an eagle.

Johnson received a winner’s check for $1.53 million for his 14th PGA Tourney victory. It’s just going where I’m looking. “I wasn’t upset at all”.

Casey finished second also after a round of 67 which included four birdies and an eagle at the par-five 15 – but that was matched by Johnson to cancel out the benefit.

And so it went.

Hend eagled the par-5 15th and birdied the 18th to reach 14-under 199 at The Dutch. The bogey on hole 13.

He is smashing his driver long and straight, just like always.

Dustin Johnson held off the challenge of England’s Paul Casey to win the BMW Championship in Carmel, Indiana. “There were a couple of bad misses, but other than that I played really solid all week”. I feel like – I feel pretty good about it.

That it did. Johnson used his TaylorMade Spider to finish No. 2 in the field in putting.

Yes, power is now accompanied by finesse, a lethal combination in the hands of maybe the most athletic player in golf, who already was No. 2 in the World and is closing quickly on No. 1, Jason Day.

Here are the rest of our grades for the BMW Championship. “I put in a new putter, and it really worked this week”.

Casey, a 13-time European Tour victor who was runner-up to Rory McIlroy last week, won his only US PGA title at the 2009 Houston Open but was level with Johnson with 15 holes to play. “Crooked Stick is very long, but it’s not long enough for these guys”.

The win moves him to the top of the FedEx Cup standings and makes him the favourite for the season-ending TOUR Championship in two weeks’ time. “But the most important thing is the next 15 years, not the next 15 days”.

BMW championship victor Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Jordan Spieth, Jimmy Walker, Brandt Snedeker and Phil Mickelson are the US team members who will be in Atlanta, as will several of the potential at-large picks in the field, including Justin Thomas, Moore, Matt Kuchar, Watson, Daniel Berger and Holmes.
