Kansas basketball: Sunflower Showdown 3 preview, where to watch

March 11 17:51 2018

The 4-seed Kansas State Wildcats improved to 22-10 (10-8 Big 12) on the season after defeating the 5-seed TCU Horned Frogs, 66-64 in OT, yesterday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Championship. They finished at 56 percent from the field and overcame an early 10-point deficit.

“Russell was an average ball handler”, Self began. It’s not far off to conclude that the OU team that won just 11 games a year ago was playing better basketball at the end of the season than the current Sooner squad. “For tonight, look, I’m disappointed we didn’t win, but we’ve got to move on, learn from it”. That’s where he was most risky.

This season’s third installment of the Sunflower Showdown will determine a spot in the 2018 Big 12 Championship final as No. 9/9 Kansas and Kansas State are set to meet in the tournament semifinals on Friday, March 9 inside Sprint Center. TCU has only been held under 70 points six times this season, but three have come against Kansas State.

But instead of loafing back on defense, Garrett faked back and then darted into the passing lane for a momentum-changing steal and layup under the bucket.

“Marcus is a competitive dude”, Self said after the victory. “So, let’s figure out how they can still not be any good even though we watched them play, and they were pretty good”.

“What’s disappointing to me is we played the second half (like) it was more important to them than us”. That kicked off a 12-2 run that concluded with Brady Manek’s 3-pointer and got Kruger’s slumping bunch within 52-46 midway through the second half. “That let us calm down”.

“They got a fast break and I bumped him and fouled him”, Allen said during the postgame news conference. De Sousa is starting to make an impact after sitting out much of the season before being cleared by the NCAA to play in January.

Now, they’ll have to wait until Sunday and the NCAA Tournament Selection Show to see if they’re in.

Among players with at least 30 shot attempts around the basket, Azubuike ranks out as the most efficient finisher in college basketball, per Synergy, converting 89.4 percent of his attempts.

Devonte Graham added 10 points, four rebounds and nine assists for the top-seeded Jayhawks (25-7), who were swept by the Cowboys (19-14) in the regular season but broke through when it mattered. “We just had to step up and play hard”. “We went to Allen Fieldhouse and got a win”. Robinson started it with a free throw and ended it with a jumper, and Williams added five points during the 11-0 spurt, which gave the Horned Frogs a 43-34 lead with 14 1/2 minutes to go. KU also outrebounded KSU by seven and swiped seven steals during a game it led by double digits for a good chunk of the way. If they reached for Syracuse two years ago, sure, it’s possible they could reach again, this time rewarding Oklahoma State for numerous high-end wins while largely ignoring an NAIA non-conference schedule.

“That was not a jubilant locker room afterward”, Self said.

For the most part, Virginia games have been going under this year.

Barry Brown kept the Wildcats’ hopes for a trophy alive by hitting a floater in traffic with 11.2 seconds remaining in overtime. KU won both previous matchups.

Self in giving an all-important injury update on Azubuike’s sprained left knee ligament said in retrospect, “probably the best thing that happened today is we know he’s on the mend”. You gotta give them credit, but we came back.
