Kell Brook: ‘I will be a beast at 160lbs’

July 14 23:00 2016

WITH a blockbuster showdown against Gennady Golovkin booked for September 10, Kell Brook tickets went on sale on Wednesday (July 13). I read that to mean that we’re probably going to see a lot of holding, running and pot shot fighting from Brook in this fight. “I want people to look back at the greats (of boxing) and give me recognition for this night”. And yeah, who you’re picking.

Brook’s step up has been branded a “joke” by Chris Eubank Jr, whose team were unable to reach agreement over a fight with Golovkin, and the Kazakh says past history of fighters going up in weight makes him concentrate even more. I want to have four more fights before the end of the year and then seven in 2017 – after that, I’ll be ready to start challenging for titles. We’re looking forward to the atmosphere and the challenge he will bring.

“What a great fight for Kell, he’s a lot bigger than people think there’s only a inch between him and GGG”. Murray was fearless and went 11 rounds with the man from Kazakhstan before the referee stopped the fight with 50 seconds left on the clock in the penultimate round. I must say that there’s not much difference in size between the two fighters. “I’m a different animal”.

The post drew a quick response from British middleweight champion Eubank Jr, 26, who is set to miss out on a share of a fight estimated to be worth £3 million. I just can’t wait to get in. “I saw a couple of his fights and he is a strong guy, the best fighter in his division”.

Amir Khan recently tried and failed to go up after facing Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in May, and Brook faces a tough task in trying to beat Golovkin – who can boast a stunning record of 32 stoppages in 35 unbeaten fights.

“We are going to go through hell in this training camp but that is what you have to do to achieve greatness. It’s the biggest test for me”.

This weekend also sees FOX television airing heavyweight title action as Deontay Wilder puts his WBC belt on the line against Chris Arreola. For Brook’s part, he is saying he is going to be more comfortable at 160 pounds because getting to 147 pounds is extreme for him.

“Gennady’s unbeaten and Kell’s unbeaten – there is a reason for that and it’s because they are very good fighters”.
