Kendrick Lamar Rocks Grammys with Incendiary Performance

February 19 01:23 2016

The leading nominee for music’s biggest awards show gave the audience a powerful and provoking medley performance of some of his biggest hits off of his album To Pimp a Butterfly.

As part of their ongoing collaborative campaign, Lamar and Reebok took the students out for the day which included a bevy of activities. Raw took to Twitter (Feb. 16) to point out the similarities in K. Dot’s performance and his hip-hop musical about mass incarceration called The Last Jimmy, a live play that showed in Los Angeles previous year.

He ended the performance in front of an image of a map of Africa labeled with the name of his California hometown of Compton. Including the Rap Album trophy, he has four already: he won three in the Grammy pre-show, which hands out numerous night’s awards. “It isn’t Kendrick Lamar – he’s not the enemy (laughs)…but maybe his choreographer is”. Taylor Swift may have won Album of the Year, but Lamar walked away far more triumphant.

After winning rap album of the year for “To Pimp a Butterfly“, he was gracious and respectful of all the great rappers to come before him. This comes just two years after Lamar was infamously snubbed at the Grammys, going home empty handed after receiving seven nominations for his critically acclaimed album “good kid, m.A.A.d city”.

Lady Gaga and producer Nile Rodgers put together a memorable tribute to the musical chameleon David Bowie, complete with her bright red hair, costumes reflecting his unique styles and splashy technical visuals.

Her speech could be directed partly to Kanye West, who recently said in a new song that he made Swift famous after he stole her microphone at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

“The piano mics fell onto the piano strings, that’s what the guitar sound was”.

“I can see that they’re full of energy, the same way I used to have, and the motivation to want to do something with themselves”.
