LaDainian Tomlinson headed to Hall of Fame, Kevin Mawae misses cut

Kevin Mawae did his part. Although he didn’t play the full season, Owens’ presence gave the franchise the swagger and extra edge needed to make it to the Super Bowl. If you want the honor of one day being in a Hall of Fame class, it’s probably best not to insult the institution. Playing until 47 years of age mostly with the Saints (and one season with the Giants) from 1982-2007, he is first in National Football League history with 2,544 points, 382 games played and 565 field goals.

Owens spent just two years of his storied career in Philadelphia, proving explosive on and off the field. He played in 241 games with 238 starts. He was selected as a member of the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 2000s.

“Before I even answered the phone I looked over at [his wife] Angi and said, ‘Well, it’s not going to happen this year'”.

The list will first be narrowed to 10, and then to five. A minimum positive vote of 80 percent is necessary for election.

The former Benjamin Russell High School standout was one of the 18 men under consideration for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2017. “I’ll go to the grave with that and be extremely proud”. He was a Pro Bowler in 2008 and 2009. And so I gained that respect from the fans and my teammates.

He stuck with San Francisco for eight seasons before spending three years with the Cowboys and two with the Eagles.

Brian Dawkins’ football career took him from a home in Florida to one in SC and then from an extended stay in Philadelphia to a stint in Denver. He had four straight 1,000-yard seasons at the outset of his career with the Denver Broncos. Tomlinson also finished with the second-most rushing touchdowns in league history (145) behind former Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith with 164 touchdowns. “There’s a very small group of individuals to be enshrined, and the process should be tough”.

Rivers: “There are a lot of reasons why LT is a Hall of Famer”. Extremely [disappointing]. But this is something that will pass and I’ll get back to my normal routine and what I was doing before this. “It is not a question of if, it is really just when”.

More of the surprise is the lack of selection of wide receiver Terrell Owens, who took to Twitter to express his frustration.

Each year, Hall of Fame voter Clark Judge provides some insight into the voting room and notable names and discussions that arose.

This class is heavy with first time finalists, but you need a cut-above career to get in on a first ballot and that’s where this class falls short. This was his first time reaching that stage of the hard Hall selection process after 11 seasons of eligibility.

“I’m disappointed, ” Dawkins said. Boselli is the first Jaguars player to be a finalist or semifinalist.

The time leading up to the vote has given him plenty of time to think. You got to look past that.

“There have been so many friendships I’ve made along the way – the players, the coaches I played for”.

“I think it’s a lack of respect for safeties and the safety position”.
