Landmarks to go dark Saturday night for ‘Earth hour’

With its participation in Earth Hour, Sandton Central joins the City of Joburg, which has put its weight behind the campaign and challenged its property owners to switch off their lights for the hour.

All restaurants and lounges switched off or dimmed lights and served food and signature mocktails in candle light. We believe like past eight years, people in Bhubaneswar & Odisha will observe the day this year too by sending a mass message that everyone is concern for living planet.

Earth Hour is set for later tonight, and many parts of the world are expected to go dark to show their support for protecting the planet.

On March 16, the organisation officially inaugurated Earth Hour 2017 at Alliance Francaise de Karachi by unveiling its celebrity ambassadors for the largest volunteer movement across the world. Switching off lights and/or changing one’s profile picture (on social media) are symbolic gestures – the first steps towards taking a stand on climate action.

Brands across the world have also joined in unison to support Earth Hour. There will be live performances during Earth Hours featuring artists such as Bridgit Mendler, Valerie June, and others.

Cook County will turn off its non-essential lights March 25 to commemorate Earth Hour and call attention to climate change. The annual switch to temporary darkness remains a powerful way to shine a light on the need for decisive climate change solutions.
