United States police officers have mistaken a cell phone for a gun in the hands of a man whom they shot and killed in Las Vegas, authorities say, APA reports quoting Press TV.

The man, who was not identified in the police statement, was wanted for multiple violent felonies out of Arizona.

Officers found him in the 8300 block of Gilded Crown Court, on the west end of the city. “However, the suspectdid not listen, concealing his right arm, which the officers believed was holding a firearm”, Captain Matt McCarthy of Las Vegas police told reporters. So officers opened fire, shooting and killing him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

But they said it was his own fault because he kept the phone concealed as he advanced towards them, refusing to “drop the weapon”, according to the New York Daily News. No bystanders or police officers were hurt during the altercation.

They said shots were fired because they were in a residential area with a man wanted for attempted murder, who they thought was holding a gun.

Police said the man was actually holding a cellphone. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.
