One of the criticisms often leveled at Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey is a perceived inability to make adjustments on the fly.
Ibaka finished with 9.7 FanDuel points in Game 2.
History is not on the Raptors side.
But more importantly, the Game 2 victory fueled talks of a Cavs 4-0 sweep looming anew as Cleveland took home court advantage with the next two games scheduled at Quicken Loans Arena starting Sunday (PHL Time). James’ teams are a ideal 21-0 when leading 2-0 in a playoff series.
The Cavaliers know that they can wrap this series up in Cleveland, but it won’t come easy.
LeBron James next team: Where could the National Basketball Association superstar go next?
The Cavaliers blew the game wide open in the third quarter when they outscored the home team 37-24. In Game 1, King James had a triple-double scoring 26 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds to lead the Cavs to a miracle 113-112 overtime win. This is a player that has been to the NBA Finals eight times including seven times in the last seven years. They’ve spent the past two years chasing and not catching James. Love has struggled from beyond the arc but he was able to have his way in the mid-range and paint in Game 3.
Jonas Valancianus typified Toronto’s endgame collapse.
It was also Love’s second 30-10 Playoff game with the Wine & Gold, having gone off for 32 and 12 in last year’s ECF against Boston.
But despite two days or rest and treatment, coach Brad Stevens said Brown is “very doubtful” for Game 2 on Thursday night.
There’s everything from “LeBronto” jokes to “He The North” jabs, photoshopped images of James sitting on the edge of the CN Tower, being sworn in as Toronto’s new mayor, or posing with child-sized versions of Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan.
But at no point has it felt like either player was ready to take charge of the game and both have been relatively quiet in the second halves of both contests.
After beating the Pacers in Game 7, James admitted that he’s “burnt right now”, yet in Game 1 Tuesday he raced into the crowd to save a ball from going out of bounds – consistent with the effort and intensity that James has shown throughout the playoffs so far. Terry Rozier had 20 points, nine assists and seven boards for the Celts, who trailed by 22 in the first half and by five midway through the fourth quarter.
Toronto had 11 turnovers while Cleveland only had three, tying a playoff record.
The Cavaliers can cover the spread if center Kevin Love doesn’t settle for the three-ball.
From his point of view, however, the Game 2 performance was his own doing.
In the two games in Toronto, James has 69 points, 19 rebounds and 27 assists and is plus-25 on the court. But this Raptors team has been too much fun all season to let their season go down in a whimper. He ended the half with 18 points on 7-14 shooting. Although he did hit two 3-pointers in Game 2, he shot 9-for-15 from two-point range and, more importantly, was a ideal 7-for-7 from the charity stripe when he drove to the rim. But where was he in Game 2 when he failed to score a field goal for the first time?
