The Revenant will be up for an impressive 12 nominations at this year’s Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.

The film will compete in a variety of categories, including Best Film, Best Director for Alejandro G. Iñarritu, Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio and Best Supporting actor for Tom Hardy.

The best picture nominees, besides those two, are “Bridge of Spies“, “Spotlight“, “The Big Short“, “The Martian”, “Brooklyn” and “Room“.

Will Smith for “Concussion“, Idris Elba for “Beasts of No Nation” and Michael B. Jordan for “Creed” were among those expected to be nominated but noticeably left off the list. However, Mad Max: Fury Road appears to be a worthy competitor, though Variety predicts DiCaprio’s film will win the award.

No actors or actresses of color received nominations for their work in film this year.

“I can now look at movies I did 10 years ago with real judgement”. Scott, 78, has been nominated three times and never won.

Carol, the film about a lesbian relationship in 1950s NY, picked up acting nods for stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara but didn’t receive nominations for picture or directing. The latter has officially become this year’s Little Movie That Could. Naturally, social media had a few words for the Academy for its consistent lack of diversity with the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite.

The 46-year-old actress is up against first-time nominees Brie Larson [Room] and Charlotte Rampling [45 Years], as well as Saoirse Ronan [Brooklyn] and Jennifer Lawrence [Joy]. It’s his 50th nomination, extending his record as the most-nominated person alive.

Although, Indian film “Court” couldn’t make it to the Best Foreign Language Film category, the movies which are contending in the top five include “Son of Saul”, “Mustang”, “A War”, “Embrace of the Serpent” and “Theeb”. That wasn’t the case as Nick Hornby’s adapted screenplay for Brooklyn took its place. Similarly, no women cracked the Best Director race – but, sadly, that comes as no surprise.ABC will air the Oscars live on February 28, with Chris Rock hosting.
