Ladies and gentlemen, please prepare yourselves for: the Air Bonsai – a floating bonsai tree that levitates because of its magnetic base.
The Air Bonsai kits plan to be shipped in August, with the Kickstarter project ending on 1 March 2016.
An innovative workshop in Japan has raised over $350K to market miniature Bonsai trees that magnetically levitate.
Hoshinchu created the floating bonsai trees using magnets. The Kickstarter campaign is still ongoing, but it has already more than tripled the goal, raising over $270,000 so far for the Air Bonsai, and there are still 35 days left in the campaign. The backers or future buyers should know that an Air Bonsai set includes a growing container the energy base, a cushion, an AC adapter and a box and its price starts at $200. The magnets are powerful enough to repel the plant two whole centimeters above the base. The top half holds an embedded magnet, with the tree carried in either a sponge ball or a carved volcanic stone planter. If you’re looking into bringing an Air Bonsai into your home, head to Kickstarter and pledge your support. Reminiscent of Miyazaki’s otherworldly animated movies, Air Bonsai is in fact a floating miniature tree. It uses magnetic levitation to make the “little star” hover above the “energy base“. However, the plant can’t get too big – the creators indicate that the plant’s weight shouldn’t exceed 300 grams if you want the floating mechanism to work properly.
The only issue if you live in the United States is that the plants are hard to be imported in the country.
A new highly-backed Kickstarter project launched by Japan’s Hoshinchu has created a buzz over the Internet. You will have to water and take care of the plant regularly, as you would with any other plant. For 10,000 dollars you get your very own customized Air Bonsai magnetic base, the little star, as well as a tour of the crafts atelier where the magic happens and the Hoshinchu Air Bonsai Garden team workspace.
