LG will unveil the G5 at MWC on February 21st.
Although we are just few days away from the launch of the LG G5 smartphone, the leaks and rumours still continue to pour in and the latest is a big one – finally giving credence to the reports of the smartphone being modular. The LG G5 is expected to steer the company’s smartphone business in a different direction and introduce a new modular concept called the Magic Slot.
LG announced some official cases last week that gave us an idea of what the LG G5 would look like, and some photos were leaked on some random websites. The photo from yesterday apparently shows something called the LG Cam Plus, and it’s a bit more than a typical camera module. As we heard in previous rumors, the battery will slide in from the bottom, something that allows LG to make a metal unibody device without having to sacrifice qualities like a removable battery.
The battery would fit into the G5’s so-called ‘Magic Slot, ‘ which will also let the phone add rumored accessories like physical control knobs for the camera or a high-end audio DAC (digital-to-analog converter, a type of sound processor).
The next flagship smartphone from Samsung’s Korean competitor has been given the full leaked image treatment as you can see – it’s had both its front and its back exposed.
As you can see, the unit itself is placed with the battery pack off centre, and if you look there seems to be room for something else. Meanwhile, the back of the phone features a fingerprint sensor, along with what appears to be a dual camera setup. Android 6.0 Marshmallow will come pre-installed on the device, and on top of it, you’ll be able to find LG’s custom UI, as usual.
