This felt in some ways like a pity golden ticket, since he really wasn’t that good; instead, he was really just LOUD. I feel like she’ll stall out in Hollywood Week, as have the many Colette Lushes before her. Her family has glittery “Colette” signs, written in the Coca-Cola font, and you know there was a whole branding discussion around the Lush dinner table.
The episode also brought us a crushing moment, in which we saw the judges dash the dreams of a blind singer who, before his audition, had described his mood as “transcendent”.
Brian Dale Brown has auditioned ten times. Ten.
Manny, the final “American Idol” audition ever (EVER!), was in many ways the flawless “Idol” contestant.
“After I went blind, I was pissed”, Bonds (a “Glee Project” alumnus) said, crediting his grandmother with getting him back in line and giving him the positive attitude he has today – at least before the judges responded to his uneven take (shaky pitch, showy style) on Natalie Cole’s “Inseparable”.
Mionne Destiny, an Atlanta singer from Chicago, posted on Facebook that she received a ticket.
Recently turned 17-year-old South Floridian, Emily Brooke, blew the judges and viewing public away during Season 14 with her rendition of Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away”. For once, Jennifer and I are in sync – she calls Jessica’s voice lush and lovely and even compares her to Kelly Clarkson. Lopez said Huber had a natural talent for feeling the song. I thought it was charming. The 16-year-old singer auditioned with “One Last Time” by Ariana Grande. Lopez liked her song but agreed that her voice still needed some work.
Chyna Sherrod – There probably needed to be a little more power during her “One Last Time” performance to really win us over, but we’re not going to deny that there was a void of good singing here. Harry was also impressed, citing a “mysterious quality”, though he warned Emilia about hitting her notes “squarely”. Did you watch the last episode? She’s in! If you assumed they play “Fight Song” as she leaves, you are correct.
“American Idol” recap tonight for Thursday, January 21, 2016. Next week, the Hollywood experience begins, and a million people cry or fail or triumph or have awful parents. Too bad he didn’t get through, but his voice just wasn’t as strong as his passion for the first “American Idol”. He auditioned with “I’m Not The Only One” by Sam Smith.
American Idol airs next Wednesday on Fox at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
