Madrid keep tab on Barca, beat Deportivo 6-2

Zinedine Zidane hailed Isco for a “phenomenal performance” during Real Madrid‘a 6-2 victory over Deportivo La Coruna on Wednesday.

Real eventually got their fourth goal in the 67th minute James grabbed his second goal by turning home Morata’s low cross.

They are level on points with Barcelona at the top of the table, although they do have a game in-hand on their fierce rivals.

Madrid’s confidence isn’t in a great place after how brutal that match with Barcelona was on Sunday, but they have to bounce back fast.

It stung Barcelona back into life and Salvatore Sirigu did well to tip a Mascherano header wide, although Osasuna now had a taste for it and Ter Stegen had to beat away an effort from Miguel de las Cuevas.

Coach Zinedine Zidane admitted that he has some big decisions to make regarding team selection for the business end of the season.

“That is the greatness of a club like Madrid“, Isco said. Recent performances, including this one, have underlined the fact that he might even be their best player.

For Deportivo on the other hand, this match will be more about trying to restrict the visitors to a draw, if all else fails.

According to reports obtained by the British press, Manchester United have renewed their interest in signing the Colombian striker, after an attempt to lure him away from Spain failed previous year.

James Rodriguez scored a goal in each half but Isco was the main tormenter as he sealed his fine display with a 77th-minute strike. Subs – Tejero 5, Casemiro 7, Mariano 5.

Pepe Mel’s Deportivo, after a campaign of struggle now mathematically safe from the drop, gave Real Madrid food for thought with a Florin Andone goal 10 minutes before the break, but Lucas Vazquez re-established the two-goal cushion heading into half-time.

With the La Liga title within reach, it’d be surprising so see them play at less than full strength (barring injury). The goalkeeper might have done better. Vazquez got to the byline and cut back a pass for James, who made no mistake in finishing into the Deportivo net. Isco fed Morata on the right and the unmarked striker applied a powerful near-post finish just 53 seconds in.
