Man in Jail for Murder in Connection With Good Samaritan Shooting

January 23 20:03 2016

The people who had been trying to help Lee started running away from the gunfire, but one man was struck and fell.

The Catawba County sheriff said Heavner was driving a pickup truck and also stopped to try and help the stuck driver.

Jefferson Heavner, a father and good Samaritan, was killed by the man he stopped to help, according to officials.

WSOC-TV reported Lee was intoxicated. Lee apparently became belligerent, and the group chose to call the cops. That’s when, according to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver, Marvin Lee of Claremont, approached and continued firing on the downed victim.

“He shoots and hits one of them”, Mr Reid said.

Deputies from the Catawba County Sheriff’s Department arrived followed by a SWAT team that found Mr. Lee passed out in his auto.

The suspect then “walks over and fires multiple shots into him”, the sheriff’s spokesman added.

The suspect returned to the vehicle and wouldn’t exit.

Law enforcement responded with an armored vehicle and shields because the shooter would not respond to commands.

Lee woke up as he was being physically pulled out of the auto by SWAT members and tried to resist, Reid said.

Lee is charged with murder.
