The 22-year-old defender is a product of the Swedish outfit’s youth system and made 40 senior appearances for the club before moving to Portugal with Benfica in the summer of 2012.

“They know if one day they bring the contract I will sign, because I love it here”.

Mourinho once had a reputation for playing defensive football but he has instilled a more positive, attacking style into United this season.

After a frustrating October and November, there must have been some Manchester United supporters fearing that Jose Mourinho really had lost his magic touch.

If Lindelof signs for Manchester United, the potent defender could be an immediate starter at United.

United legend Gary Neville recently expressed his surprise that the club did not target the 25-year-old in the last transfer window.

Mourinho will be without Eric Bailly for at least four games in the new year due to his Africa Cup of Nations commitments with the Ivory Coast.

The Super League clubs there have been flashing huge amounts of cash to players and coaches but Mourinho has no interest in managing there.

“You have to be honest and say that is very hard”.

Craig Burley says Zlatan Ibrahimovic is proving he can still deliver after he and Paul Pogba led Man United past Palace. Players such as Monaco’s Fabinho, Everton’s Seamus Coleman, Benfica starlet Nelson Semedo and budget option Rick Karsdorp from Feyenoord have been mooted as possible options.

“So let’s see where we finish, I don’t want to say fourth, because I think we can do better than fourth”.

The Sweden worldwide is being heavily linked with a January move to Old Trafford in a deal that is thought to be worth around £38million.

“Before the end of the year we have two more games in Old Trafford where we will try to continue with the positive results”.

It is likely the Swedish global will join the Red Devils and link up with countryman Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who said Lindelof is “ready for the big clubs”.

Finally, players looking to leave United according to rumours include; Morgan Schneiderlin, Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Marouane Fellaini.
