Mark Davis: Report: Vegas magnate may build stadium

January 29 02:10 2016

“The Sands leadership team let us know that officials from the Oakland Raiders are scheduled to travel to Las Vegas and tour locations around the valley for a potential new home and they have asked us to meet them at our 42-acre site on Friday morning to answer questions about the site”, Jessup wrote in the email. The Sands would likely partner with other investors and might seek to draw on public revenue sources, such as hotel room tax revenue earmarked for promoting tourism.

The biggest piece to the Oakland Raiders puzzle lies south of Oakland in San Diego where reports are the Chargers are close to determining if they want to stay in San Diego or join the Rams in Los Angeles. They are negotiating with their current home – the Oakland Coliseum – which is heavily outdated and pathetically unprofessional. The Sands operates The Venetian and Palazzo.

The memo, which was obtained by Nevada political reporter Jon Ralston, said officials from the Raiders will meet with representatives from the Sands and UNLV to assess the area as a relocation option.

In the past two years the Raiders have been linked to Sacramento, San Antonio, Los Angeles and now Las Vegas. Because gambling is legal in Nevada, professional sports leagues have long opposed allowing teams in the city.

Jessup has already secured 42 acres of land to support the stadium while UNLV’s football team would also call the location home.

“I think the Raiders are ideally suited for Las Vegas”, Trask said.

According to theLas Vegas Review-Journal, Sands is proposing to build a billion dollar, 65,000 seat domed stadium on the site to house UNLV’s football team, that will be ready for any potential NFL team. “Certainly Sheldon and his team have proved time and time again that they produce great projects”.
