Martin 1kg heavier than Joshua for heavyweight title fight

A win for Joshua, a London 2012 gold medallist, will award him the heavyweight title, and will ensure he goes down in history as one of the best English boxers of his generation.

The 29-year-old is also undefeated from 24 fights and will make the first defence of his belt having won the vacant IBF title against Vyacheslav Glazkov in January when the Ukrainian had to stop because of a knee injury suffered in the third round.

In a recent interview, Joshua revealed the 4,500-calorie daily diet that keeps him energised for his gruelling training regimen and while it doesn’t look a world away from the average diet of an athlete, we reckon that the portions are absolutely massive to add up to 4,500 calories (the RDA for an average male of his age is 2,500).

As Price similarly experienced, Joshua has spent much of the past week exchanging insults with WBA and WBO champion Tyson Fury, whom Martin considers superior to Joshua.

“A hundred per cent, a hundred and 10 per cent”, said Joshua when asked if the fight would end in a knockout.

Such a significant adjustment to his preparations no doubt represents a risk in what is the biggest fight of his career, even in a week when insults between Joshua and Tyson Fury regarding each other’s figures has given the subject of conditioning greater attention. I like AJ a lot, but I am quite shocked they are rushing him, though.

“The victor of this fight will be the one who is smarter and if Joshua commits to coming after me too hard, he will walk onto a counter-punch”, he said. “He was gifted it”, the American said. I think Joshua will win but Martin is not on the same level as Haye or Fury.
