Mayor hopes for fresh start with Chargers on stadium talks

While the Rams, Raiders and Chargers were the leading candidates to be relocated, a handful of other options have been thrown out there in recent years. After another negotiating session Tuesday afternoon, Kroenke’s $1.8 billion project prevailed.

ALAMEDA, Calif. – Perhaps the biggest misconception to come out of the Oakland Raiders not winning the right to move to the Los Angeles suburb of Carson with the San Diego Chargers is that the Raiders are staying put in the East Bay. “If the Chargers don’t accept an option to be (L.A.’s) second team, that option goes to the Raiders”.

L.A. lost two teams in the 1990s-ironically, the Rams and the Raiders-but now will have two at the same time.

The Chargers were also given a second date of March 23, 2016. The new stadium construction isn’t getting public funding and instead is to be privately financed at a cost that could exceed $2 billion.

“Before we got the USC games”.

Kroenke successfully negotiated his way to Los Angeles, leaving San Diego to decide its future and Oakland out of luck this time. Most people in L.A. aren’t from L.A., so what you’ve got is a lot of people who are huge fans. For one, he has to notify the city of San Diego between February 1 and May 1 whether he will renew the team’s year-to-year lease.

An NFL team has not played in the Los Angeles area since 1994. If they decide not to move to Los Angeles by January 16, 2017 then the Raiders have the option to move to the Inglewood Stadium with the Rams. They won’t, however, be looking for a new NFL franchise: Mayor Francis Slay told reporters Wednesday that the city is turning its back on the league, once and for all. Spanos has wanted a replacement for aging Qualcomm Stadium for around 15 years, a quest stymied by the city of San Diego’s fiscal problems of a decade ago, the recession and difficulty in finding a suitable site. “Today we achieved this goal with the compromise reached by National Football League ownership”, Spanos said.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the Inglewood stadium will be ready for the 2019 season. “I think what happened over the last years is we had two outstanding opportunities, both of these stadium projects were outstanding”. Where would they play? This is Stan’s vision and Stan’s stadium. That means the Rams will be spending the next three seasons at the Coliseum.

Sherman grew up in Compton, just outside Inglewood where the new stadium will be located.

“This city really will miss its mediocre Rams“. Surely you know that by now. “…We’ll see where the Raider Nation ends up here”. Rams employees spent Wednesday learning about the months of work ahead, and spokesman Artis Twyman said the team hasn’t made any logistical decisions yet about the move.
