Melania Trump, Michelle Obama tete-a-tete over tea at White House

President Barack Obama and President-elect Donald Trump met on Thursday for the first time, setting aside the deep rancor that dominated the long campaign season to discuss the transition to the Republican’s inauguration on January 20. The vice president-elect, Mike Pence, also attended the session with Ryan, who, like Obama, has had his share of differences with Trump.

Trump also spoke positively about the meeting and said he has “great respect” for Obama. And misgivings about Trump will certainly follow Obama to Latin America, where Trump has turned off many with his hard-line immigration stance and description of Mexican immigrants as criminals and rapists.

Asked about his talks with lawmakers, Trump told reporters:”We have a lot to do”.

“Our goal is to provide them the kind of advice that would give the president elect and his team the opportunity to succeed in uniting and leading the country”.

The first meeting between U.S. President Barack Obama and president-elect Donald Trump went well, according to both men who appeared cordial and respectful of one another in front of cameras. “He may have one, but there’s something on that, maybe religion, maybe it says he is a Muslim”, Trump told Fox News in 2011.

“This obviously was an important early step, having the president sit down with the president-elect to discuss that transition”, he said.

“We are not being provided any information or access by the Trump transition – they are not even responding to emails from me – so I will forward information that the White House is providing that is of interest”, a reporter from Politico, functioning as Trump’s “protective print pool”, wrote Thursday morning.

Obama had campaigned vigorously across the country, making a forceful case in favour of Hillary Clinton.

Right now, we have a president in office who is terrific”, Rivers said.

“There’s an internal pressure that takes hold between the Congress, the White House and the public that nearly compels them to do the things that they ran on”, he says.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also joined Trump and Ryan later in the day.

The two men ended the historic White House encounter with a handshake and refused to take questions. Obama said of Trump.

Where is President-elect Donald Trump?

For months, Obama lent credence to those concerns as he urged Americans to reject Trump.

“If his closest advisers don’t trust him to tweet, why would any of us trust him with the nuclear codes”, Mr. Obama said during a Philadelphia rally.

Taking the stage to cheers, Trump said Clinton had called him to offer her congratulations and to concede the race. And we had an excellent conversation with her as well, and we want to make sure that they feel welcome as they prepare to make this transition.
