Merseyside derby: can Everton overcome hoodoo and will Coutinho shine?

March 31 23:35 2017

We found the going tough during the global break with all three of our selections missing out by a single goal. We all do this on the back of the players and a lot of players got injured on this global break.

The Reds have recovered well from the surprise loss to Leicester City four matches ago; a team with less resilience and confidence could well have seen their momentum disrupted by having a relegation-threatened side hammer in three goals.

Klopp could even become the first Liverpool manager to win his first three league Merseyside derbies against Everton today, though he will have to deal without captain Jordan Henderson (foot) and influential central midfielder Adam Lallana (thigh).

However, this is the Blues’ longest run of games (13) without a league win over their rivals. You have to go back to 2010 when Everton last won this fixture – when Liverpool had a defence including both Paul Konchesky and Sotiros Kyrgiakos!

The Toffees were beaten 1-0 in the corresponding fixture at Goodison Park back in December following a late Sadio Mane goal.

He told reporters, such as these ones from Goal: “I am not skilled in many parts of life but maybe I am a genius in understanding derbies because I didn’t need a second to understand this”.

A lot of Everton supporters believe this might be the year they break the hoodoo, which has been hovering around Anfield for them since 1999, but I can only see Liverpool winning this one. Everton’s derby on Saturday April 1, 2017, against neighbor Liverpool, which is one of the sides fighting to clinch a place in Europes top competition. However, they may well be worth a shot in the double chance market against Bilbao on Sunday. Firstly, Everton are far better at home than they are away, and secondly, their record at Anfield is absolutely woeful. It will be either a City win or a draw. “Don’t settle for less!”

“We had the same problem – when people would think negative every time they would lose”, added the keeper. Liverpool won the match 3-2.

Robles was at the Spanish club for a chunk of that time and was still on their books, although on loan at Wigan before a permanent move, when they ended the run in the 2013 Copa Del Rey final. Liverpool and Both to Score looks to be where the value lies. It’ll take time to get back up to full match fitness, and at this stage of the season, time is one thing he doesn’t have.

Everton have not beaten Liverpool at Anfield since 1999
