Miss Colombia thanks fans after crowning mistake

Pageant host Steve Harvey on Sunday (Monday in Manila) mistakenly announced Miss Colombia as this year’s Miss Universe, before backtracking, apologizing and finally declaring Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as the fairest among women from some 80 countries.

Anyway, instead of hiding away and drowning her sorrows in Ben & Jerry’s, like most of us would probably be inclined to do, Gutierrez shared a touching message for her fans on Instagram on Tuesday (Dec. 22).

Emphasizing on the role of destiny and fate, she went on to say, “Your destiny is written for you”. And my destiny was this.

Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez has reportedly received a letter from Vivid Entertainment, the maker of several celebrity pornographic films, offering her up to $1 million to make a film for the production house. I could give the joy of being #MissUniverse to my country only for a few minutes, today thanks to that COLOMBIA and the LATIN community sounds in every corner of the planet. After the show, the Colombian beauty took to her Instagram page to gracefully address the mix up and congratulate Pia. “Thank you for all your LOVE SUPPORT and KINDNESS”.

“Gutierrez earlier irked some netizens when she posted photos of her wearing the Miss Universe crown with the hashtag “#backtoback”, while hugging the 2014 Miss Universe Paulina Vega, who also hails from Colombia.

Harvey said it was his mistake and he would take responsibility for not reading the card correctly that named Ms. Wurtzbach the victor and Ms. Arevalo the first runner-up.

But despite the major error of the host, the producers of the pageant will still keep Harvey on as the host of future pageants, seeing that he has already signed a contract that made him the host of the contest for six to seven more years. This has brought attention to the country, and we’re pretty sure that she will still be celebrated like a Miss Universe when she is back there. “I feel bad”, he wrote.

“OK folks … I have to apologize”, he told a confused crowd in Las Vegas. It didn’t deserve to happen that way, but it happened from an honest mistake.

Meanwhile, pageant officials have offered Harvey an invitation to return as host in 2016, which I think is a brilliant idea. “They were all wonderful”, he continued to tweet.
