Several fans were disappointed when it was revealed that a mistake occurred as it is Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach who clinched the crown and not Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez.
Colombian media and social networks lit up with reactions to the botched Miss Universe 2015 finale on Sunday night, which saw the national contestant crowned and dethroned in a matter of minutes.
Then the host Steve Harvey said he’d made an awful mistake.
Harvey took to Twitter.com after the Las Vegas show to say sorry once more, writing, “I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake”. However, he said he would’ve made Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines co-winners if he still owned the Miss Universe pageant.
Moments later Steve blamed the teleprompter, however, we think it was just an honest mistake, that was possibly bound to happen since he ditched rehearsals.
“Thank you for voting for me”. To Colombia, that feeling of winning and you could see that she was crying of joy and got that taken away; and at the same time for Philippines, she didn’t really have that awesome victory.
“I couldn’t believe it, I was so upset”, said Sarah-Lorraine about the winners announcement mix-up.
In the wake of the whole Miss Universe 2015 fiasco, Trump tweeted Sunday that it would never have happened if he was still in-charge.
Back in 2013, Denise Garrido was crowned as Miss Universe Canada, but was stripped of her title the next day when it was discovered that a computer error botched the results.
This is exactly how she thought both Miss Columbia and Miss Philippines handled themselves, with grace and dignity. “I have to apologize”.
Miss Colombia might have enjoyed one of the shortest reigns in Miss Universe history, but, at least, this year people will remember the runner-up.
