Mobile Edges Verizon To Become Fastest Mobile Data Provider

February 03 20:03 2016

OpenSignal based its data on 181,927 US mobile handsets installed with its app from October 1 to December 31 2015.

Numbers show that both Sprint and Verizon scored unimpressive results on 3G with 0.6 Mbps and 0.7 Mbps.

T-Mobile relies on high-frequency spectrum more than AT&T and Verizon do.

The study also shows that while the usa is in the top 10 of countries globally when it comes to 4G coverage, when it comes to speeds, the country is in the bottom 20 when it comes to slowest average speeds for LTE, with less than 10mbps. Verizon and AT&T have 82.63 percent and 86.73 percent respectively.

T-Mobile provided the fastest 3G download speeds among the four major carriers at 3.48Mbps.

Can you hear T-Mobile now?

T-Mobile’s 700-MHz rollout has given its mobile users some of the fastest data speeds in the USA market, according to a report OpenSignal released Tuesday.

OpenSignal’s app is available for download on the iTunes App Store and Google Play and continually runs tests to measure the real world experience users receive.

“T-Mobile still has some catching up to do if it wants to surpass the two US mega-carriers in coverage”. Also, T-Mobile is allowing customers to stack this with their half-off smartphone event that they launched earlier this week. However, our 81% average of 4G network uptime across the country is something only seven other countries can boast about.

On the other hand, OpenSignal lamented that the United States is behind the curve in average speed. Although I’m always grateful for fast, reliable LTE whenever I return to the US from a trip overseas, it appears the nation is losing to other countries in speed.

“Last week Nielsen says Sprint is the best”.

Interestingly, the USA has a national average 4G download speed of 9.9 Mbps, which is far less than the global average speed of 13.5 Mbps. However, this only applies to Sprint’s “LTE Plus Network”, which isn’t available everywhere, so this finding doesn’t disprove the nationwide results reported by the likes of OpenSignal and RootMetrics. Verizon had the best coverage and tied with T-Mobile for 4G download speeds, while Sprint won for 4G latency. That’s the lowest price ever offered by anyone.
