Modi insulting Assam, BJP-led alliance communal, divisive:Sonia

BJP today accused Congress chief Sonia Gandhi of trying to divert attention from “failures” of her party’s government in Assam by attacking the Narendra Modi dispensation and said that she had nothing to say about the 15-year-rule of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. “We will beat them in the elections in Assam by love, not by violence”, he said after stopping a Congress worker from raising “Modi murdabad” slogan.

“Ever since Bangladesh was created, there has been infiltration in Assam”. It will be sealed with the active cooperation of state government. Assam has only 263 Kms of border with Bangladesh. “There is an increasing frustration with Congress and it has reached a stage where party leaders are leaving as they have no faith in his leadership”, BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma told a press conference. “Why didnt you completely seal the Indo-Bangladesh border?” he asked at an election rally here. Assembly elections will be held in the state in two phases – on 4 and 11 April. We would also curb the inflow of FICN into the country through global borders. “FICN is not only a threat to internal security but it also weakens India’s economy”, he said.

The Congress president reminded the people of Assam that the state was known only for insurgency and bad fiscal health earlier and that the “same situation will be repeated if these two evil forces come to power in Assam once again”. “The security scenario has greatly improved in the Northeast after the Modi government assumed office with the level of violence reducing to lowest in the past 18 years”, he said. They said he was a deceiver and chose to teach him a lesson.

Gandhi urged the prime minister to go to the people saying it would benefit him. “We believe they will keep their promises made towards tobacco control in Assam in the coming times”, said Neog. Everybody knows what happened in Gujarat and recently in Haryana where BJP was in power. There are people of all religions here and they all have been living with peace since ages.

Highlighting the work done by the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress government in the last 15 years, Gandhi said, “Congress has done a lot of work but the biggest achievement was to bring peace to Assam”.
