The Mexican authorities have deported American Tonya Couch, accused of helping her fugitive teenage son flee the United States despite his probation in a drink-driving case.
Ethan Couch was transported late on Wednesday from a detention facility in Guadalajara to another in Mexico City.
The sheriff has said he believes the two fled in late November after a video surfaced that appears to show Couch at a party where people were drinking. Jalisco state prosecutor Eduardo Almaguer Ramirez said US authorities knew the mother and son were in the beach resort town because of a phone call to Domino’s Pizza, The Associated Press reported.
Tonya Couch will be held at the downtown Los Angeles jail until U.S. Marshals take her to Texas, where she and her son live and where he was on probation for the drunken-driving crash, Eisenman said.

Along with three meals per day, Couch will have access to watch TV or movies in one of the Spartan common rooms, or go to an outside patio where there is a basketball court and small soccer pitch.

During the sentencing phase of his trial, Ethan Couch’s lawyers relied on a defense expert who argued that the teen’s wealthy parents coddled him into a sense of irresponsibility – a condition the expert termed “affluenza”.
But his mother was deported and flown to Los Angeles, where she was escorted through the city’s sprawling LAX airport in handcuffs by US marshals early Thursday morning.
“He will be here for the time that is necessary” for the deportation case to close, the migration official said on condition of anonymity, adding that the process could take weeks or months.

The ruling earlier Wednesday by the Mexican court gives a judge three days to decide whether the younger Couch has grounds to challenge his deportation based on arguments that kicking him out of the country would violate his rights.
Hunter said that Mexican immigration agents detained the Couches in Puerto Vallarta after going to an address provided by USA officials.

Once returned to Texas, Couch will be held in a North Texas facility until a probation violation hearing January 19.
Families of the people killed by Couch were relieved the teen and his mother were captured, attorney Todd Clement said.
Couch pleaded guilty to four counts of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury.
Couch disappeared as authorities investigated whether he had violated the terms of his probation. “This is what they have requested”, Ricardo Vera said.
The social worker concluded that the Couches had “adultified” a then-9-year-old Ethan, allowing him to become overly involved in adult issues and decisions.
Anderson said he supports the district attorney’s request to transfer Couch’s sentence from the juvenile system to the adult court system. The Couches were taken into custody Monday evening and handed over to immigration officials.
