South Korea qualified for a place in the Olympic women’s curling semi-finals with a 9-6 win over the United States on Tuesday as Canada’s hopes of defending their gold medal hung by a thread following a 7-5 loss to China.
While women’s snowboard big air was a new addition for the 2018 Olympics, it has been a part of the Winter X Games and FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships for a few years.
“We’ve got Korea again, we’ve played them many times being in the Pacific region, we’re just excited to get the opportunity”, Lind said. I acted like it was just myself.
The four-man bobsleigh competition will have a total of four heats, and the team with the fastest aggregate time will get the gold medal.
Coming in third behind Italian victor Sofia Goggia and silver medalist Ragnhild Mowinckel of Norway, Vonn confirmed that it was her last ever Olympic downhill. “It’s about me and my skiing and not the others”, the Italian said.
“It was tough to contemplate this being my last Olympic downhill”. “They were working really hard”. “So it means a lot, and to be here with this group of girls and to be with them all year has really been an honor”. But, coming off of a 5-1 win over Slovenia, the US men’s team could grab an Olympic medal without them. “I knew she was going to be the one to beat today“.
“It’s hard for me to understand the thought process of the savage abuse I’ve taken on the internet”.
As it stands, Vonn became the oldest Olympic female medalist in alpine skiing with her downhill bronze, a record previously held by Austrian Michaela Dorfmeister (super-G 2006). She has a bronze and two silvers to join Pat Martin (gold and two silvers, 1948-52) and Steve Holcomb (gold and two silvers, 2010-14).
Vonn skied a safe run, but she did not take any risks with the lines she ran.
The 37-year-old Bjoergen has won four medals at the Pyeongchang Games. “(If) we can go out and make the shots, and make the shots with the rest of them, we have a good chance to win every game”.
The American came away with the bronze by finishing 0.47 seconds behind the gold medal-winning Sofia Goggia (GOH’-jah) of Italy.
She also has expressed a strong desire to race in a men’s event – probably at Lake Louise at the start of next season – which would rule her out of the women’s event she has won 18 times and extend the process of reaching Stenmark’s record.
“It’s sad”, Vonn said. “I just wish he was here and wish he could’ve watched me”, she said, adding that it was also special to have her father, Alan Kildow, in the crowd.
“During Sochi I was on the couch watching the Olympics after my second ACL surgery”.
