Big Hero 6 was a successful film that touched the hearts of the audience, all thanks to the scriptwriting talents of Daniel Gerson. Most recently, Gerson co-wrote the screenplay for Disney’s Oscar-winning animated film Big Hero 6.
Mr. Gerson’s family said in a statement that he died at his Los Angeles home Saturday after battling brain cancer. They are also the screenwriters for Cars 3, which is coming out next year.
Per The New York Times: Daniel expressed a unique zest for life, its big and little moments, and brought that spirit to all of his loved ones.
Gerson was born in 1966 in New York City.
Gerson began his career in the late ’90s as a writer on TV shows including Duckman and The New Addams Family, before breaking out by co-writing Disney/Pixar’s 2001 movie Monsters, Inc.
“The main thing is just to write”, Gerson advised aspiring screenwriters during an interview with Mingle Media in 2013.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Beau Stacom; his children Claire and Asher; his parents Mary-Joan and Charles; and his sister Jessica and her children Daisy and Henry.
A long-time stalwart at Pixar and Disney, Gerson was a frequent collaborator with Robert L. Baird after the two met in 1998.
