Month-old water skiier likely to set record

We live on a lake and have a boat, and even putting my 7-year-old on water skies this summer has me feeling jittery.

The Florida native skied 686.4 feet and beat the previous record of the youngest person to water ski by being only 2 days younger.

A six-month-old girl has made a splash by breaking the record for the world’s youngest water skier.

Her attempt at the world record happened after her father, Keith, set a pending world record in barefoot water skiing at the barefoot water ski tournament earlier that day, according to World Barefoot Center in Winter Haven.

According to the AP, Zyla’s parents are both professional water skiers.

This toddler may not be able to walk like a pro, but she can certainly water ski. When she and the skis sank into the water, he jumped in and was with her in seconds, he said.

Commenters on the video of Zyla water skiing last week criticized the St. Onges for putting the baby in danger.

“People don’t realize that it was done properly”, he said.

The AP reached out to USA Water Ski spokesman Scott Atkinson about the record, but a phone call and email were not returned.
