Police in Winston-Salem, North Carolina say a person in a clown costume tried to lure kids into the woods Sunday night.
Claims of creepy clowns trying to lure kids have expanded into a second state.
One adult reported hearing the clown while the two children said they saw it, authorities said.
Police canvassed the area and did not find the clown.
Someone called 911 after seeing a clown near an apartment complex on Oak Ridge Road, according to Susan Danielsen with the Greensboro Police Department.
The incidents are the latest in a string of similar clown sightings.
The Winston-Salem scares come after at least eight clown sightings in SC, with one child near Greenville saying that multiple clowns near his house were “whispering and making unusual noises”.
Investigators said no conclusive photo or video evidence has surfaced.
The first creepy clown sighting in Greenville was reported on August 21, when a citizen saw a “suspicious character dressed in circus clown attire and white face paint, enticing kids to follow him/her into the woods”.
The person dressed as a clown tried to get children into the woods by offering them treats, according to police.
Since then, more reports of clown sightings have cropped up. The police have conducted several searches and numerous investigations in the hopes of capturing the suspects but so far have come up with nothing.
They were told a man went after the clown with a machete.
Law enforcement officials in SC have spoken out to whoever is behind the sightings, warning them that they could be prosecuted.
A woman told a responding deputy that her son had “seen clowns in the woods whispering and making unusual noises”. “They were so distraught”, she told the news station. Police do not know the intention of the clown. “It’s illegal, it’s unsafe, it’s inappropriate (and) it’s creating community concern”.
