More Than 570000 Jeep And Dodge Vehicles Recalled Over Fire Hazards

December 29 19:23 2015

The recall train has a new passenger: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is now recalling 570,000 SUV models for fire risks in two different campaigns that involve issues with the vanity mirror wiring and a low-pressure hose. It was only earlier this month that Fiat Chrysler agreed to pay $70 million in fines for failing to report vehicle crash injuries and deaths since 2003. Here, dealers will install a new adhesive to secure the wiring in the headliner.

The Fix: FCA will notify customers when they can take their vehicles to a dealership to fix the problem. All repairs will be conducted free of charge.

The 2012 Jeep Cherokee is among the latest Fiat-Chrysler vehicles involved in a recall. The vehicles were all built prior to September 2, 2012.

Fiat Chrysler said it’s also calling 93,000 2015 Jeep Compass and Patriot SUVs to inspect and in some cases replace a clamp that secures a low-pressure return hose. It says that clamps in some vehicles produced during a five-month period in 2015 may be out of position which could result in a rapid loss of power steering fluid, that’s also a fire hazard. Alternatively, drivers may have to put in extra effort to steer the vehicle. A total of 60,107 units are suspected to suffer from the issue and owners of the respective vehicles have been informed of the recall.

Most of the recalls are within the US though there is still a high number internationally.
