Mother Teresa Will Be Recognized As A Saint By Pope Francis

December 25 03:28 2015

Pope Francis approved of what is the second medical miracle to be attributed to the Catholic nun, now formerly known as Blessed Teresa of Kolkata, on his 79th birthday Thursday.

The date for the canonization ceremony has not been officially stated, but CNS said Archbishop Rino Fisichella, president of the Vatican office that organizes the Holy Year of Mercy events, declared it would be September 4, 2016.

Mother Teresa won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her work with Calcutta’s destitute and ill – work she continued even after becoming sick.

Mother Teresa, the founder of the Missionaries of Charity, will be canonized as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church next year, the Vatican announced on Friday.

The Vatican later said that at the time of the man’s surgery, his wife was praying for Mother Teresa’s intercession alongside her pastor. Her second miracle is said to be healing a Brazilian man who suffered from a viral brain infection.

Delhi Archbishop Anil JT Couto welcomed the Vatican decision to elevate Mother Teresa to sainthood.

Indian government bestowed Padmashri award on Mother Teresa in 1962 and Bharataratna, the nation’s highest civilian order, in 1980. Known as the “saint of the gutters”, the Nobel Laureate was born to Albanian parents in what is now Skopje in Macedonia.

The name hasn’t been made official – that is, until now, though Mother Teresa is definitely thought of as a st on the other side of the planet. She died in 1997 at the age of 87.

She set up her Missionaries of Charity, an order of nuns dedicated to the care of the “poorest of the poor”, in Kolkata (Calcutta), in 1950 and made her headquarters in the Indian city for almost half a century. “We are very excited and happy about it”, Missionaries of Charity spokesperson Sunita Kumar told Echo of India. Then, the Church requires two miracles to be attributed to that person.

The Catholic Church believes that a saint is someone who is thought to have been holy enough while they were alive to be now present with God in Heaven.

“We thought her whole life was a miracle”.

Two separate miracles have been attributed to Mother Teresa.

“That’s why I think that abortion has become the greatest destroyer of peace today because it destroys the life of the child, but also destroys the conscience of the mother also, and for years and years, she knows that she has murdered her own child”, she said.
