According to Immigration New Zealand’s website, people with criminal convictions or who have provided false or misleading information will not be granted a visa unless a character waiver is granted.
Board seeks legal advice on visa hurdle for Aamir: The PCB has sought legal advice on whether Aamir can get a visa to travel with the national side to New Zealand in January.
Left-armer Amir has impressed in domestic cricket, finishing as the top wicket-taker in the Bangladesh Premier League for the Chittagong Vikings.
Last week, Amir was included in a 26-member fitness camp ahead of Pakistan’s limited-overs series against New Zealand.
Pakistan have yet to apply for a visa for controversial fast bowler Mohammad Amir, who needs a character waiver to join his team’s cricket tour of New Zealand.
“Nevertheless, PCB insisted on Amir going through a further rehabilitation programme for six months”, read a statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board.
As a teenager, Amir was regarded as one of the most talented pace bowlers in the world before being found guilty of spot-fixing in a Test against England at Lord’s in 2010.
“Mohammad Amir – after serving his sentence for spot fixing – has passed through a gradual process of rehabilitation and re-education.” the statement said.
Both ICC and the British justice system were lenient towards Amir because of his remorse and cooperative conduct.
Butt and Asif have not been allowed to even the domestic cricket yet but Amir has given the benefit of doubt as he was the youngest and admitted his mistake before other two players.
Amir completed this programme which comprised lectures to junior teams warning them against corruption, sessions with psychologists and with senior players.
He was called into a national training camp, despite opposition from former Pakistan captain Ramiz Raja and all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez.
Chairman Shahryar Khan has called upon Mohammad Amir to show modesty and discipline in his conduct as he would constantly be under microscope.
The tainted national player Muhammad Amir is facing problems in getting visa for upcoming New Zealand tour as the country has rules against granting visas to individuals with criminal convictions.
