Must-watch: Everson Griffen reacting to Diggs TD in real-time is priceless

January 18 10:32 2018

Tell me you didn’t blurt out some sort of version of “Oh my gosh!” But my god this was an very bad loss.

Inspired by that toughness, Vikings fans followed the example of Bills fans donating to Andy Dalton’s foundation and Bengals fans donating to Blake Bortles’ foundation. You got one. You finally got one. From Des Moines to Ames to Spencer to Davenport, it’s gone.

You might say the Minnesota Vikings had a good luck charm at the game on Sunday night when they defeated the New Orleans Saints with a stunning 61-yard touchdown on the last play. An airborne Diggs made the catch and avoided the hit, and Williams crashed into teammate Ken Crawley as Minnesota’s miracle quickly became reality. “Like in that 1998 game, I’m calling people saying, ‘Is anybody going to work today?'” Saints fans probably also said “WTF”, but with a clearly negative connotation attached to rookie safety Marcus Williams’ actions on the play.

The #Minnesota Vikings have been one of the greatest stories in the #NFL season this season as they have repeatedly overcome the odds in the face of seemingly impossible opposition. He played in the game a couple of years ago against Seattle when Walsh missed a short field goal to lose a playoff game.

Andy, who remembers history all to well – all those near-misses, all those inexplicable Vikings meltdowns at the worst possible moments – last week anxious openly that a Super Bowl run for his team seemed nearly too good to be true in 2018.

Has any fan base suffered more than Vikings fans over the past 50 years? “I can’t wait to see all the hype. It’s been fun to watch everyone love her as much as we love her”. Matt Ryan had one more chance to keep his hopes at a second Super Bowl appearance alive.

All that now stands between the new purple people eaters and their heroic quarterback is a road game against the Philadelphia Eagles which will likely be played in the brutal cold. Now it’s about taking advantage of an opportunity to reach the Super Bowl at U.S. Bank Stadium on February 4.

Millie, who has been a fan since 1961, was definitely the team’s good luck charm, and National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell personally came to meet the lively senior citizen to give her the tickets himself.

Everybody was thinking the same thing: The Vikings were going to blow another one. The other came off a tip by Everson Griffen at the line that sent the ball fluttering into Anthony Barr’s arms at the Minnesota 10-yard line to thwart the next possession. New Orleans had taken a 24-23 lead just 15 seconds earlier.

Not this time. Not on this day. “He came down, made a great play and that’s on me”.

The Saints had three defensive backs guarding the sideline as Kyle Rudolph, Wright and Diggs all ran sideline routes from the right of their formation.

The Vikings have had a prolific air attack this season with quarterback Case Keenum, wide receiver Adam Thielen and tight end Kyle Rudolph, in addition to Diggs. Minnesota was frantically trying to get in range to try another long field goal and win the game.

In the immortal words of Prince, which blared inside the stadium, let’s go insane. “You don’t need to give a team like that more bulletin board material”.

Thomas Morstead earned Vikings fans’ respect. You really, really – really – deserve it.
