Kicking off an Iowa tour right after receiving the endorsement of conservative personality Glenn Beck, the Texas senator said that Trump’s proposal was merely a “touchback” program that immediately allows the undocumented back over the border after deportations. Cruz’s comments come a day after Trump released his first attack advertisement painting Cruz as also insufficiently tough on what to do with those who came here illegally. “No legal disclosure and never sold off assets”, Trump alleged.

As part of the immigration reform debate in 2013, Cruz introduced an amendment that proposed stripping the option of citizenship but granting eventual legal status for millions.

“Ted Cruz complains about my views on eminent domain, but without it we wouldn’t have roads, highways, airports, schools or even pipelines”, Trump wrote Friday on Twitter. “Had I not brought up the subject of illegal immigration, an issue which Cruz is very weak on, nobody would even be talking about it. I will build a great wall, and Mexico will pay for it”, Trump said.

Trump’s ad – which is slated to run in Iowa, New Hampshire and SC – then shows a clip of the Donald in an ABC interview blasting the flow of immigrants into the country.
